My grinder has little tick marks so I can keep track of adjustments to some degree. I seem to have to grind a little finer with lighter roasted coffees and coarser with the darker ones. So when I switch from lighter to darker I adjust 2-3 ticks and give it a try. It's usually not perfect with the first shot but close enough that I just need to make minor adjustments for the next two or three shots.
